PPO Plans: Carriers (BCBSNM & United Health Care)
Employee/individual pays an annual deductible and the insurance company pays a portion of their medical bills after that. PPO plans offer employee/individual choice of receiving care from a preferred provider at a higher level of coverage or from their choice of providers outside the PPO network.
Indemnity Plans:
Carriers (BCBSNM, Guardian, Principal, United of Omaha, American Medical Security)
Employee/individual pays an annual deductible and the insurance company pays a larger portion of their medical bills after that. Employees/Individuals can receive care from virtually any licensed physician they choose. Some carriers have networks and reimburse in-network care at a higher level.
HMO Plans:
Carriers (BCBSNM, Lovelace, Presbyterian)
Employee/individual pays a co-pay to each doctor and the plan pays for most of all of the remaining covered medical bills. HMO plans require an employee/individual or spouse to live and work in the HMO's service areas. HMO medical care is coordinated through a Primary Care Physician that the employee/individual chooses from the panel of available doctors. |
